Company History

Don, Dave, Steve and Ron McArthur started homebuilding operations in 1993. The original company was McArthur Communities, LC. In 1996, the current structure of multiple companies was established. We enjoyed a healthy home building environment and market in the 1990's which allowed us to enjoy good financial success. We benefited greatly from the diverse and complimentary backgrounds of the Owner in establishing a new home building business. From the beginning we placed a high priority on education and learning from other builders and consultants which allowed us to improve quickly and be well poised when the market was not as forgiving.

Our first offices of about 800 square feet were located at Fox Park office complex at 9400 South Redwood Road. Initially the only employee we hired was a part-time receptionist/ bookkeeper. In 1995 we hired a full time accountant, part time estimator and moved to a slightly larger office in the same complex. By the end of 1996 we increased our total employee count to about 16 (including Owners) and began plans to construct an office building at 9948 South Redwood Road. During construction we rented office at 9497 500 West in Sandy Utah. The new 3,000 square feet office was completed in 1998, where we remained until 2005. At that time, we demolished a rental home on the adjacent property at 9962 South Redwood Road and constructed a new office building with a total square feet of about 7,400 square feet including a basement. The basement included a 2,000 square feet Design Studio, and 800 square feet file storage area. We expect that the current location and office will serve us well for the foreseeable future.

In 1995, John Gassman joined the company as a superintendent. In 2001, John was promoted to Vice President. He supervised home construction and quality throughout the company. This allowed Steve to move into a more active acquisition and development role for the organization. We added key positions of Estimator/ Purchasing Manager in 1998, Controller in 2002, and Sales and Marketing Manager in 2005

In 2003, Don McArthur was called to serve full-time in the Kona Hawaii temple as Temple President. His responsibilities were absorbed by Dave, Steve and Ron. He continues to serve on the Board of Directors, provide guidance to the company, and work on feasibility analysis for new deals-especially with joint venture partners.

In June of 2008, Steve McArthur chose to leave McArthur Homes to pursue other exciting opportunities and personal interests. He will be sorely missed by everyone, but perhaps most by John Gassman who will assume Steve's responsibilities for land development, and Dave McArthur who will take over land acquisition and entitlement work! Steve has been an integral part of the success of the company for fifteen years, and will always be a part of McArthur Homes.
